Are many atheists intellectual militants and morally self-confident?

  • asserting absolute truth doesn't exist...yet they are absolutely sure religions are false...
morally self-confident...yet calling morality a subjective matter...

  • Can you define any of the terms you've expressed in this question?

    Edit... I'll assume that's a no then.

  • It's called common sense. Period.

  • NO. If you actually find an atheist who does all that, call your local cryptozoologist, because that's a rarer find than Bigfoot.

  • How sure are you that Santa doesn't exist? I'm willing to bet ,you are every bit as sure he doesn't exit. There are an infinite number of things we aren't sure exist, but we don't suspend judgment and say maybe purple flying whodywhatsits exist on the planet wertsat. Until there is any evidence, we simply assume they DON'T exist. The God concept is no different and shouldn't have special rules.

  • being smart has nothing to do with morals, but being religious will make you close minded to a certain degree

  • no

  • No more than those that aren't atheists.

  • Science has shown atheists have a higher intelligence than people with a strong religious faith. The difference is 5.8 points according to findings in developmental psychology!!!

More members of the "intellectual elite" considered themselves atheists than the national average.

Only 7 percent of members of the American National Academy of Sciences believed in God. Whilst only 3.3 percent believed in God in the UKâ ™s Royal Society.

Several Gallup poll studies of the general population have shown that those with higher IQâ ™s tend not to believe in God."

Evolution in action with Christians getting left behind like the monkeys and apes before them!!!

    2. Research shows that the reason humans struggle with emotion to find equitable solutions is pinpointed the region of the brain called the insular cortex, or insula, which is also the seat of emotional reactions.

The fact that the brain has such a robust response to unfairness shows that sensing unfairness is a basic evolved capacity.

The emotional response to unfairness pushes people from extreme inequity and drives them to be fair. This observation shows our basic impulse to be fair isn't a complicated thing that we learn.

It therefore fully illustrates that all humans have morals controlled by the brain and that Christians are entirely wrong to try and claim morals as their own!!!!

Nothing moral in christian behaviour or claims then!!!

  • And where, exactly, did you get that information from ?

  • You've been imbibing too much Christian Supremacist propaganda.

  • Sounds like a compliment to me. I'll accept it.

  • I'm fairly certain we live in a finite universe, in which case, according to the law of probability, there would be absolute truth, in which case I'm absolutely sure than someone's religion must be false. I choose all of them.

By observable fact, humans are too insignificant to be correct.

If the room you are sitting in was the universe, the Earth wouldn't even measure up to a sub-atomic particle, THAT'S how insignificant we are in the universe. When speaking religiously about what we know about the universe, it is fairly clear that religion sells reality short.

Therefore, there is a large enough probability that I can say with absolute certainty that your religion is wrong.

  • Wow look up the definition of the word atheist
    You sound confused
And atheism isn't a world view or religion so don't go generalizing
    People by a few idiots

  • Yea I just don't believe in god, heaven, praying, eternal damnation/salvation, etc....I'm not asserting that absolute truth doesn't exist.....and it's fine to be confident in one's own morals and believe that morality is a subjective matter. I believe that religious people have morals, I just don't believe in who they worship and place faith in, and I believe that I have y own morals which are different then theirs but not any more "right"

  • No, I am sure there are some out there who are like that, but most of us aren't.

  • An atheist is anyone with a lack of belief in deities. You're welcome.

  • What does morality have to do with the fact that we believe gods don't exist?

  • We do not assert absolute truth. We argue based on the evidence we've seen and experienced. We know that there is no absolute truth.

and we are self-confident of our own sets of morals, other people's morality is their own business.

  • Are you learning from our answers?

I would be happy to answer any sincere questions you have, but a lot of your questions don't show that you really understand how atheism works...no offense

  • Atheists don't sell atheism door-to-door.

Atheists don't advertise in the newspaper.

    Atheists don't sell tracts.

Atheists do stand their ground. You got god? Bring him to me, show me his face. Let ME hear his voice - from the horses mouth.
    Numbers 22:30

  • No.

It does not take an Einstein, although he knew it too, to know that religions are just man made nonsense.

I have no doubt that God will reveal how appalling religion is to Him one day. By the decline in Christianity and the growing number of agnostics and atheists, He may be doing it already. He has to me.

    agnostic/deist

  • Religions claim to be absolute truth. Absolute truth does not exist. Therefore, religions are false.

Morality IS a subjective matter, unless you think the rule "Do not lie" should be applied in every instance, even when the Nazi soldiers come to our house asking if we are hiding Jews.

  • What are you talking about!? Outside of my name, I`m not absolutely positive about anything (and would never claim such) When it comes to god I`m 99.99% sure it`s bunk. How are you so sure god exists?

  • I can only speak for myself: nope and nope.

  • lol, your funny. Christians are just the same, if not worse. It's not an theist thing, it's a human thing. Human as a rule, like KNOW things. Not think them, know them. Some fulfill this need with religion, demanding they are right, despite what religion they may be. Take note, some people do not fulfill this need with religion, and they are typically the religiously tolerant people.
