I am trying to drain a 1 acre spring fed lake and it is not going down very fast even with a trash pump, why?

  • The obvious answer is in the question: "spring fed"!


  • as the jist of all the answers are you plain ignoramus ,you cannot mess with a water course,spring fed means its coming from ground water source,what do you plan to do with the area once (if ever) you drain it it will always flood it is a low water area.Also not to mention what you are doing is extremely illegal.Plus were is the pumped out water going????probably leaching right back into the water table to be repumped out


  • First you need to reroute the springs.


  • you shouldn't be doing that


  • Don't let any environmental State or Federal agency find out you're doing that at all, unless you have a permit. Even that is doubtful you would be able to get a permit to drain a spring fed lake. You are going to be looking at one hell of a fine.
